Economically Empower obstetric fistula survivors!
iZōsh: Women Investing in Women (http://izosh.org) is one of Healing Hands of Joy’s major partners in an effort to economically empower obstetric fistula survivors. Since 2017, iZōsh has granted micro-loans to 21 Safe Motherhood Ambassadors. These women were empowered by the micro-loans after they graduated from HHoJ’s Hawassa Rehabilitation Center, with $250 per person microloan to help the women start their own income generating activity.
One of the Safe Motherhood Ambassadors who benefited from iZosh’s financial support is Sawda Aman.
Sawda Aman, is devoted Safe Motherhood Ambassador who is actively educating her community to end fistula. She said that, “I am teaching pregnant mothers about obstetric fistula, Antenatal Care (ANC) follow up, institutional delivery and family planning. I am also educating my community about the consequences of harmful traditions like early marriage. I’m going to keep working hard as a Safe Motherhood Ambassador to prevent the occurrence of obstetric fistula in my community.”
To date, Sawda has educated 13 pregnant women, out of them 6 women has delivered safely at health institution and 7 are still visiting health centers for ANC. Sadwa has invested the microloan she received, on buying and selling cereals at local markets in her village. With some money saved, Sadwa has bought a cow to begin a cow fattening business.
We would like to thank iZōsh for their continued support in transforming the livelihood of obstetric fistula survivors in Ethiopia.
