On May 23, the United Nations, Healing Hands of Joy, Natalie Imbruglia, and others around the globe will mark the annual International Day to End Obstetric Fistula. This year's theme is "End fistula, restore women's dignity." We are proud to partner with Natalie and UNFPA to help bring international awareness to this devastating but preventable child bearing injury. In 2014, Natalie visited Healing Hands of Joy and witnessed the work of our Safe Motherhood Ambassadors
"My visit to Ethiopia was memorable, meeting many women recovering from fistula. Healing Hands of Joy is providing transformative education, counseling and essential social reintegration support for Ethiopian women who have suffered from fistula. I witnessed and was impressed by the work of Safe Motherhood Ambassadors in the rural countryside, identifying new cases of fistula and diligently educating pregnant women about safe delivery to prevent fistula." - Natalie Imbruglia
We are committed partners in the fight to end fistula. Additionally, we have had the distinct privilege and opportunity to serve as an active member of the Fistula Elimination taskforce in Ethiopia whose goal is to eliminate fistula by 2020. We are doing our part to contribute to this goal by expanding our program into two new centers in Ethiopia which will enable us to reach 265 women with fistula in 2015.
