Ways to Give
How We Steward Your Generosity
Why Unrestricted Gifts Matter.
Restricted vs. Designated Gifts: What’s the Difference?
We’re grateful for your generous support of Healing Hands of Joy. Your gifts empower women in Ethiopia to reclaim their health, dignity, and future. To make sure your impact is maximized, we want you to understand the difference between restricted and designated donations:
Designated Gifts
A designated gift is when you express a preference—for example, “I’d love this to help women in the Amhara region.” While not legally restricted, your preferences matter deeply to us. We do our best to apply designated gifts as intended, while retaining the flexibility to respond to the greatest needs on the ground.
Restricted Gifts
A restricted gift is one where you tell us exactly how you want your donation used—for example, “Only for Safe Motherhood Ambassador training.” When you make a restricted gift, we commit to using your donation exactly as specified. If the project becomes fully funded or no longer viable, we’ll reach out to discuss options or follow legal guidelines to honor your intent.
Your generosity is always handled with care, transparency, and respect

Make a Tax-Free Gift from Your IRA.
If you’re 70½ or older, you can make a meaningful gift directly from your IRA to Healing Hands of Joy—and it may count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) while also reducing your taxable income.
This is called a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), and it’s one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.
Here’s how it works:
- You must be 70½ or older at the time of the gift.
- You can give up to $100,000 per year directly from your traditional IRA to a qualified charity like Healing Hands of Joy.
- The amount you give won’t be included in your taxable income—a big benefit, especially if you don’t itemize your deductions.
- If you’re over 73, your gift can also satisfy part or all of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD).
